Playlist: "Eclecticism" 7/10/2011

Hello internet world, here's the playlist from the show this week. I'm so sad I won't be around next week for the radio show, but I'll make it up somehow. Enjoy!

Rubber

The other day at work I was perusing the movie section and came across this horror movie, Rubber. Here's what the official synopsis reads:
RUBBER is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life. As Robert roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses terrifying telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first content to prey on small desert creatures and various discarded objects, his attention soon turns to humans, especially a beautiful and mysterious woman who crosses his path. Leaving a swath of destruction across the desert landscape, Robert becomes a chaotic force to be reckoned with, and truly a movie villain for the ages. Directed by legendary electro musician Quentin Dupieux (Steak, Nonfilm), aka Mr. Oizo, RUBBER is a smart, funny and wholly original tribute to the cinematic concept of “no reason.
The tire on the cover and finding it horror section had me sold, but I was obligated after reading the summary. The film was done my Mr. Oizo. I watched the trailer for the movie when I got home and was super stoked to see Mr. Oizo and Justice's Gaspard Augé worked on the soundtrack. I'm not really sure how I didn't discover this before now. Maybe it solidifies me living under a rock. Luckily, the movie's free on Netflix, and I got a chance to watch it with friends last night. Now I'm up to speed. It was well worth the hour and twenty minutes. The movie was well done. I also grabbed the soundtrack from Amazon this morning for 6 bucks. The music for the movie was perfect. I'm happy with my decisions thus far in my Rubber journey. The preview and a couple of tracks follow for anyone interested.

Disclosure - 'Carnival EP'

I'm a huge fan of [legal] free music. Here's a good find.

Disclosure is the electronic duo consisting of brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence from London. At 16 and 19-years-old, they've got some sophisticated beats. After releasing a couple of the tracks from their EP, Carnival, the brothers made it available for free on Facebook. Simply 'Like' Disclosure and download the tracks. Below are a few tracks from the EP to listen to before fully committing. Enjoy!

Playlist: "Eclecticism" 7/3/2011

Thanks for listening this week! Happy 4th of July (if you're in The US). I know it was tough to choose between fireworks and listening to college radio. Enjoy the playlist. I'm stoked for sparklers tomorrow!
