Playlist: "Eclecticism" 12/30/2012

Tonight was the last show of the year! It's amazing how the year flew by. There were so many amazing songs from 2012. I tried to get as many into two hours as I could, but we didn't even put a dent in the folder I was pulling from. So consider this the pre-gaming to tomorrow night's festivities. The first show of the year will have to be the after party. Come back for that! Judging by what's left in this folder, it's going to be a great time.

Mix Monday: Sparkless - Nu Disco Your Disco (Exclusive Mix)

Merry Christmas! (And Happy Holidays to those who don't celebrate Christmas!) Normally I would listen to Christmas tunes while wrapping the last of my gifts, but iTunes hasn't been cooperating and I haven't a solution. So, off to SoundCloud where there are lots of readily available mixes for a music junkie's listening pleasure.

Ukrainian dj, Alexander Khomenko (or Sparkless), posted this great disco mix from his podcast "Nu Disco Your Disco." It's not exactly a holiday mix, but the energy and vibes are just right. The classic disco vibes gets a nice little relaxed groove going. After all the holiday craziness, who wouldn't want a relaxing groove? Enjoy this, enjoy your holiday, and and don't forget to relax, because isn't that what the holidays are about?

Mix Monday: LOUISAHHH!!! - FEVER PITCH 12-12

LOUISAHHH!!! WOO! Every time I read her name, I feel like I have to back it up with energy and excitement. She's is one of my favorites when I'm in need of some moody or edgy house music. Her work with Bromance Records is particularly satisfying.

This is the first of episode of a podcast series for TUNNELFM where Louisahhh djs the first hour, and then a special guest takes over for the second hour. It happens the third Saturday of the month at 11pm (GMT). Stevie Be (one half of Pipes) appears as the first guest of the series. In total, it's a fantastic two hours tracks.

Mix Monday: SBTRKT - Boiler Room Mix

SBTRKT, so I've heard, is a must see. I haven't gotten the opportunity yet, but this 50 minute set he laid down for Boiler Room looks and sounds like a good time. Enjoy it. SBTRKT pulls from quite a variety of genres, including house, hip-hop, and contemporary R&B. I'm in it to get my UK Garage fix, but the flawless change of styles near the middle and end of this set is why SBTRKT is brilliant. Both the video and audio track are posted after the jump. Make sure to grab the download.

Mix Monday: Eldaran - Mixtape Relax and Dance

Relaxing and dancing are two of my favorite things, and the combination of the two is pure bliss. Any music relating to such activities is also welcomed. I don't know who Eldaran is, but this is a fantastic. He promises good vibes and delivers. Thanks Eldaran, and thanks Luv Shack Records for favoriting this today. Make sure to download this one.

Mix Monday: Duke Dumont - Mix for Studio Brussels

Every now and then with these Monday mixes, I like to post something that satisfies my music itch. If you've been following the show, you've probably noticed Duke Dumont popping up quite a bit in the playlists. His sound is commanding and there's a nice little sass in there. No matter how many times I hear "The Giver," it's never enough. This mix features several Duke Dumont tracks. The only thing is, I wish I got my dose of "Reclamation of the Trance." I'll put that at the end. Enjoy.

Holy smokes! This is the last show for November! This month was all sorts of messed up because of the hurricane and loss of power. Everything just seemed to fly by, and now it's basically over. Well, December is one of the best months in my opinion. Thanksgiving is really just pregaming for the holidays that follow. Hopefully you enjoyed the show, and come back next week. The end of the year is looking good for Eclecticism. Here's the playlist from tonight:

Mix Monday: Cyclist - November Bikeride :::mixtape:::

Cyclist is always great go to for some funky house disco. This mix is the second installment of these "Bikeride" mixes. November really gets going from the start just spiral into a deeper and deeper groove. The end gets pretty intense with the Zombie Disco Squad Remix of Mike Mago into Chris Malinchak. Delicious. Head over to facebook to grab this one. While you're there, grab some of his other tracks.

Mix Monday: Poolside - Seasons Change (Fall/Winter 2012 Mixtape)

Poolside's new Seasons Change mix sets a different tone as the colder months approach. Obviously the weather in New Jersey has been crazy, but last week's snowfall had me excited for winter. Everything about the season leads to cozy. This mix is filled with a lot of chill, relaxing tunes making it perfect for late nights and curling up under a blanket before bed. Since there's no more snow on the ground, I guess it's time to grab that blanket.

Mix Monday: Koobra YleX XmiX - October 2012

Koobra was an instant favorite when I first heard the track "Nightrunning." It has such a great energy. (Keep reading to listen to that one.) If only there were more tracks. There were a lot of good mixes today, but I can never get enough Koobra-time. This mix oozes with lush, driving house, and who doesn't love that? It's a great way to start the week. More please.

I have to be honest, this was up there on the list of best shows I've done. Hopefully you caught this one. There was a lot of what I like to refer to as "dripping, drooling synthesizers." I've been feeling a lot of that lush and dreamy stuff. For this year's CMJ Music Marathon, I made it out to the Ghostly International/Cascine Showcase. Aside from nearly passing out from the heat and the people packed into Le Baron, the show was fantastic. It cleared out a bit halfway through. And thank goodness, because Chad Valley was absolutely amazing. Too many people can sometimes ruin these things. I'll definitely be seeing him live again. Enjoy this playlist, I  know I will.

Mix Monday: Andrew Clarke - Night Mix

Recently, I've noticed most of my music listening is at night. You can see where this is going, but I'm glad I found this new Andrew Clarke mix when I did. It's perfect. The name of it doesn't matter. It's filled with some wonderful moody, hypnotic deep house tracks that'll work for whatever you're doing while you're up at night. One of my favorites is the starter, "Same Old Place" by Genius in Time. And honestly, it just keeps going from there. Good stuff. Enjoy the rest of your night.

This week's show was pretty awesome, hopefully it pulled you away from The Walking Dead premiere, but I have I feeling it didn't. It's okay, if it weren't for the show tonight, I would have been watching too. But I have to hold out for the re-run.

Tonight's show featured three or four tracks from my latest music find from Luv Shack Records. It's their first release, but check out their more recent releases. Enjoy!

Mix Monday: MNQN x NEON Exclusive Mixtape July 2012

Obviously it isn't July, but this is the most recent mix from Switzerland's Mannequine. Even though I've been trying to get away from the beach, this doesn't have too many tracks that I would consider summer tracks. This mix is really solid. There's a lot of lush, atmospheric, yet extremely groovy house music with some drool-worthy basslines, which is exactly what I'm craving with the falling temperatures.

Mix Monday: The Vitalic Noise 'Family Ties' Mixtape

October crept up fast. September wasn't really an active music month for me. I apologize for slacking on my Monday mix to kickoff the past couple of weeks. Hey, sometimes you just aren't feeling it.

This Monday, I'm back on, and it apparently coincides with the re-lauch of Vitalic Noise. To showcase some of their artists, they released this flawless mix. It's available to download for free, but most of the tracks remain a mystery. However, one of the identified tracks led to me acquiring an album, so it's not a complete letdown. It's still a great mix to kickoff the week.

La Fille De L'Air #1: Zéphyr

Monday had me a little uninspired, so I didn't post a mix. Apologies. These things happen. That's not to say I didn't find mixes, just not anything that complemented my musical mood for the day. Now, on to Tuesday.

To make up for the loss, I'm sharing this compilation from La Fille De L'Air Records, which happens to be a freebie. I sat on this for a while, but now's the time. Lately, I've been craving some music to fill, what I refer to as, my "futuristic house" fix. This compilation does the trick, and it has been getting some heavy rotation in my life.

There's a lengthy block of text (in both French and English) on the La Fille De L'Air SoundCloud that describes their vision, but here's what I took away from it: french, feminine, sophisticated, deep house, filtered house, disco house, and did I mention house? Needless to say, it's really good.

Check out the teaser video below, and if you're feeling that, keep reading for more tunes. The download links follow as well.

Mix Monday: Zimmer - Paris Plage | Summer Tape

Zimmer, in my opinion, is the master of summer vibes. I've probably said that before, but I'm saying it again. This guy is genius. August is the unofficial end to summer in my book, and I've been in the mood for some deeper summer tracks. Think end of the night jams, but more epic because they're end of summer jams. Zimmer's Paris Plage mix hits all the right spots. These tracks are perfect! Have a listen, download, and enjoy the rest of summer.

I put some of my favorite summer jams into the mix tonight, and also some new favorites that I plan to carry on into the cooler temperatures. Anyway, enjoy the playlist and the rest of your summer!

Mix Monday: Isaac Tichauer - August Mix

Isaac Tichauer has been on heavy rotation in my house over the past couple of weeks. Ever since French Express released his debut (and the label's debut) album, Devotion. I've been playing it a lot, usually on repeat. The funky, sassy deep house and spacey vocals are addicting! This mix is fantastic as well. It's an entire hour of delicious tracks blended together flawlessly. My car will appreciate the new treat.

Mix Monday: Maxxi Soundsystem - White Light 56

Originally, this Monday was going to be about the latest White Light mix by RAC, but I've been feeling Maxxi Soundsystem lately. He'll be spinning in New York at Le Poisson Rouge this Saturday, and I'm excited for that. So when I came across a Maxxi Soundsystem mix while looking into these White Light mixes, I knew exactly what I wanted to share.

This has more of a late night feel to it, but that is the intention of the White Light mixes. They are meant to be about music and space, and they "will always be about night driving, introspection, and taking the time to listen from start to finish." Check out their website. Hopefully the set on Saturday will have dancing in mind. Until then, this gets burned for the car. Enjoy.

Mix Monday: Diyqee - DQ Tape XVI

Summer is in full swing now that it's getting near the end. It's how I justify posting this Monday's mix technically on a Tuesday. There really isn't another season that encourages taking time off, relaxing, sitting in the sun for hours, and spontaneous drinking and feasting with friends. I've made sure to get in my fair share, and not without the perfect tunes to set everything right.

There's been no shortage of appropriately tropical music this summer. This latest mix from France's Diyqee mixes together some great tracks. It starts off with Poolside and only gets better. Make sure to add this into your rotation of summer tunes. I did.

Mix Monday - Penguin Prison July 2012 Mixtape

This summer has been packed with so many shows, it's insane. Ever since my birthday at the end of June, I feel like I've been going to shows nonstop. Not that I'm complaining. Everything has been fantastic! It just hasn't left me much time to write about anything. Oddly, this Penguin Prison mix touches several of the shows I've been to and some of the music I've picked up along the way. I intend to write about these things.

Penguin Prison was one of the artists I went to see back in June at Brooklyn Bowl. His music is so catchy and infectious, the live performance is just icing on the cake. That's definitely one worth checking out.

Enjoy the mix. Also, if you haven't grabbed the geniusness by RAC featuring Penguin Prison as remixed by The Magician, do that. I'll put some more goodies at the end of the post.

Mix Monday: LOUISAHHH!!! - Bromance Summer Mix

Bromance and Gotta Dance Dirty present the awesomeness that is this Louisahhh mix. I'm so happy this  came out today. Instead of doing my own show last night, I decided to head to Le Bain. Louisahhh and Chris Malinchak killed it. It was well worth skipping the show for the week. However, I did leave the show feeling a need for more Louisahhh in my life. This mix does the trick for now. Mix Monday: Joe Goddard 45 Boiler Room DJ Set

Joe Goddard goes in on this Boiler Room DJ set with some serious UK garage and grime. I can't lie, when I first saw this mix, this was the furthest thing from how I imagined it would sound. The tracks are so bassy and glitchy, but still have a nice chill flow -- it's fantastic. Let's just leave this at, I need to hunt down some more tunes of this variety.

There's a chance I won't be around next week. More about that later. Enjoy the playlist!

Poolside - Pacific Standard Time

Finally, it's here! A whole album of Poolside! At about 3am, something got me to check on the status of Poolside's debut Pacific Standard Time. I'm so happy it turned out to be the day it was released. Not only was I able to order the sweet double LP appropriately on gold and turquoise vinyl, it also came with the download on the receipt. Hooray for instant gratification!

If you haven't heard of Poolside, honestly, I'm sorry. You're missing out. It's been a year since "Do You Believe," and more recently Summer is basically halfway over. The epitome of summer music has been absent from your life. (Unless you're in the southern hemisphere. I guess it's technically winter right now -- hmm.) Everything you do in the summer could be done to this album. Obviously it's perfect for sitting by the pool or on the beach, but you can also get down to a lot of these tracks. There's a great little groove going on here. But to get you up to speed, or for your enjoyment, let's listen to some Poolside.

Mix Monday: The C90s - July Chart Mix

There certainly is no shortage of great mixes floating around right now. I had a few really good ones over the weekend. This Monday, I'm going with The C90s July mix. It's been way hot lately, and I'm ready for that epic dance that brings on the monsoon. While dancing and listening to it this morning, I decided, this would be the soundtrack to my raindance. Bring it on.

Also, these tracks are fantastic. I've been basking in the rays of all this, what I like consider, tropidisco. This mix really gets into a nice house groove. I love it. Grab the free download of NSW Stomp by Debonair. I couldn't help but notice it was free when I found it on SoundCloud.

Mix Monday: Zimmer - Tobogan | June Tape

There's so much sexy tropical disco going around! I don't know what to do with it all. Zimmer has always been a champion of the sound in my opinion. He was one of the first guys I heard doing this style, and I've always loved all things Zimmer. His latest mix features some awesome tracks, some of which I remember seeing for download. I'll put those at the end. Happy summering!

Mix Monday: Keenhouse - Folding Mix

The weekend of shows not only left me exhausted, but it set me on a binge of good vibes. I plan on posting more about my weekend adventures soon.

This Keenhouse mix not only has the most amazing summer groove going on, it has two parts! It's a house addict's dream. I think I listened to it three times today, and danced entirely through the first part in my room. Burning this for the car wasn't even a question. The two hours of super smooth house is fantastic. Even though it came out a couple of weeks ago, it wraps up my weekend and sends me shuffling on to the next weekend of djs and shows. Sadly, I didn't come across a tracklist for this one. If I find anything, I'll add it to the post. Hope you love this as much as I do!

Mix Monday: Eats Everything - RA.316 Podcast

Eats Everything has been on my radar a lot lately. I've been feeling the deep and bassy house. Now if only my internet would cooperate. It's not really conducive to the year 2012, so finding any music has been dreadful. I was happy to find this latest Resident Advisor podcast while skimming my facebook stalkerfeed on my phone today.

This mix features several Eat Everything edits in addition to some killer tracks. Apparently the guy hasn't done a set like this before. Well, I hope that he does, and I hope that he does it in New York. I'd like to believe that the kid who knocked on my door (intending to go to the small gathering next door) thought he was about to walk into the dance party of the century. I mean, I was having the dance party of the century -- alone.
